Randolph's Movie Theater Returns at Full Size, and Its Target Week Covers Harvest Hoopla Saturday

Regal plans to reopen the former Showcase Cinema de Lux at 73 Mazzeo Dr. as Regal Randolph. A company spokesperson told The Enterprise the target is between Oct. 15 and 22, depending on the town approving several permits. The theater isn't shrinking. Showcase opened the building in 1998 as a 16-screen theater. Regal expects to keep all 16 screens and more than 2,000 seats, and to add IMAX and RPX auditoriums.

The timing is the other half of the story. Oct. 15 is a Thursday and Oct. 22 is the next Thursday, so the window takes in Saturday, Oct. 17. That's the day the Randolph Intercultural Community Center has set for Harvest Hoopla at Powers Farm. If the permits come through early, Randolph's fullest fall Saturday could run from a farm field at noon to an IMAX screen after dark, all inside town lines.

Seven Months Dark, Then a Straight Swap

Randolph lost its big screen earlier this year than people first expected, and got it back sooner. Here's how it went:

  1. Feb. 10, 2026. The Enterprise reported that Showcase had posted Sunday, Feb. 22 as the last full day of operations at 73 Mazzeo Drive, with no reason given for the closing.
  2. Feb. 27, 2026. The final day was pushed back to Sunday, March 1.
  3. Sept. 18, 2026. Regal confirmed its plans for the building and gave the Oct. 15 to 22 target.

From March 1 to mid-October is about seven and a half months. That's a short gap for a 16-screen building with more than 2,000 seats. The Enterprise wrote that moviegoers across the Brockton area had depended on the Randolph location for more than 20 years. Showcase had also put a multimillion-dollar renovation into more than a dozen of the auditoriums back in 2015. A new operator taking over a building that size with its screen count intact is why the gap stayed short.

The date still depends on the town. As of today, Sept. 27, nothing public has firmed up the window. The Town Council agenda for Sept. 14 has no Regal item. The Licensing Board agenda for Sept. 16 covered mobile food vendors and short-term rentals, not the theater. Planning Board minutes say the reopening date "will be announced when available." Regal's own theater finder doesn't list a Randolph location yet. Oct. 15 to 22 is a real target, but it's a target, not an opening date.

What Regal Is Putting Back in the Building

Keeping the screen count is one thing. The programming Regal described sounds like a full-service theater from the first day:

  • IMAX and RPX. Both premium formats are planned for the Randolph building.
  • "31 Screams on Screen." Regal's October horror series shows a different horror film every day of the month. On weekends it adds family-friendly screenings of films like "Monster House," which have spooky elements without being scary.
  • A starter concessions menu. Hot dogs, pizza, pretzels and nachos at first, with fried foods and other items coming later.
  • Loyalty programs. Regal Rewards is free and earns points on tickets and concessions. Regal Unlimited includes unlimited 2D movies, premium-format upgrades and 10% off concessions. Regal Rewards+ includes one 2D ticket a month with rollover, plus 20% off nonalcoholic food and drinks.
  • Weekly deals. Monday Mystery Movies and Regal Value Days are both planned for Randolph.

The horror series is why the October timing matters. An opening anywhere in the Oct. 15 to 22 window catches the second half of "31 Screams on Screen," including family matinees on the weekend of Oct. 17 and 18. The Enterprise also noted that Regal Randolph is expected to be running before "Avengers: Doomsday" and "Dune: Part Three" come out in December. That gives the IMAX auditorium a busy first holiday season.

Oct. 17 Was Already Randolph's Busiest Fall Saturday

The theater news adds an evening option to a Saturday that was already packed. Here's what's on the calendar for Oct. 17:

Time Event Where Details
11 a.m. to noon Crystal Coven Turner Free Library, Shurtleff Room Registration required, limited to 20 adults
Noon to 4 p.m. Harvest Hoopla Powers Farm, 592 North Main St. Run by RICC; no registration needed to attend
During Hoopla Bookmobile @ Harvest Hoopla Powers Farm Turner Free Library's off-site stop
6 p.m. Trick or Trunk Randolph Intercultural Community Center Park at 240 North St.; confirm the date with RICC

The date needs one warning. The RICC events webpage lists both Harvest Hoopla and Trick or Trunk as "Saturday 10/18/26." Oct. 18, 2026 is a Sunday, and the page's registration links still say 2025. RICC's 2026 Harvest Hoopla poster says Saturday, Oct. 17, noon to 4 p.m., at Powers Farm, 592 North Main St. Turner Free Library's Bookmobile stop at the event is on the same date. Oct. 17 is the date to plan around for Hoopla. Trick or Trunk is listed at 6 p.m. that weekend, but nothing outside the older page confirms its 2026 date, so check with RICC before loading up the car.

RICC's parking notes will save you some trouble. For Hoopla, it asks people to use the overflow dirt lot, walk or carpool. For Trick or Trunk, park at 240 North St. The line starts behind the RICC building next to the playground. RICC lists its address as 128 Pleasant Street.

Powers Farm Community Park is a good setting for an afternoon like this. The town describes it as 22 acres of open space with trails through fields and cedar swamp, plus a pond. Harvest Hoopla there is a yearly October tradition.

Two Ends of Town, One Long Day

Until March 1, Randolph had both a daytime October tradition at Powers Farm on North Main Street and a 16-screen theater on Mazzeo Drive. For most of 2026 it has had only the first. If Regal opens early in its window, the old pairing is back for Hoopla weekend, and the theater has more to offer than before, with IMAX, RPX and a daily horror lineup.

A realistic Oct. 17 could look like this. Start at the Turner Free Library at 11 a.m. if you got one of the 20 Crystal Coven spots. Spend the afternoon at Powers Farm with the Bookmobile parked on site. Go to Trick or Trunk at 6 p.m. if RICC confirms it for that night. Then, if Regal Randolph is open, catch a weekend family screening from "31 Screams on Screen" or a late show in the IMAX auditorium. The schedule depends on two dates that aren't locked yet: the theater's permits and RICC's Trick or Trunk date.

If the permits come through later in the window, the theater still opens with most of October's horror lineup left and the December releases ahead. Regal's plan keeps the building at its full 16 screens either way.

After Hoopla Weekend

The fall calendar keeps going. On Nov. 7, Turner Free Library hosts "Wildlife Out Your Window," a talk and book signing with wildlife ecologist and author Brad Timm. The library's November calendar lists it from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Shurtleff Room, and registration is required.

For the theater, watch the town's Licensing Board and Town Council agendas for a Regal item, and Regal's theater finder for a Randolph listing. Either one showing up would be the first public sign that the Oct. 15 to 22 window is holding.

At Zander Realty Group, we keep up with the openings, permit votes and weekend dates that shape life in Randolph and around the South Shore. If you've wondered what a theater coming back to Mazzeo Drive might mean for your home's value, reach out for an estimate built on current local details.
